I had been thinking about it for a while. As of Jan. 1, 2012, my paintings no longer have the subtitle “self-portrait.” They are still self-portraits, but it no longer needs to be mentioned. The question of what that “self” actually is is an important one within Buddhism. I am increasingly getting the feeling that “I” don’t matter as much, even in painting.
